WORLD WAR III. Why is no one saying this?

A "cease-fire" has been ignored/violated.

Russia to USA: Choose between us or Georgia.

Is this not exactly how these things start?

I feel like this phrase is the elephant in the room of every single news organization. Haven't heard it once.

The very fact that this war-humping McCain uses the words "Cold War" is fantastic.

A storm is brewing, my friends!

If it well and truly comes down to WW3 vs. Protecting Our Allies, it's pretty damn clear that we'd throw Georgia to the wolves in a heartbeat.

The neocons have been whispering dreams of NATO in their ear, promising protection, building up their self esteem.  When Georgia acts on it and tries to assert its sovereignty in a territory that's legally theirs, all we have is words.  This is to be expected; we can hardly afford to pacify two countries in the middle east.  Russia would be more difficult.

This will be resolved with Georgia in an increasingly precarious place over the edge.  The US will pat itself on the back for averting disaster, and someday soon Russia will swallow the country up.  They'll be condemned, but nothing will come of it.  If we wanted  to annex Baja California for its precious beach resources, would Russia be able to stop us with words?

Ossetia follows on the footsteps of Sudetenland precisely in the sense that many intelligent people understand the war to come that is brewing, while Western governments still keep trying to appease the all-devouring ogre.

The question is which country'll be in the position of Poland -- which country will be the wakeup call at which point Western nations will realize they can no longer appease the invaders.

Possibly it'll be Ukraine, possibly some Baltic nation.

The US would be stupid to commit combat troops to Georgia...then again...Bush is stupid, so maybe you're right.

Bush won't be happy until he manages to destroy the ability of the US Armed Forces to defend our country.  He helped to fuck this up, but I'm pretty sure that he will be able to make it even worse.

Our foreign policy is a complete disaster.
